There are massive benefits of using SEO. If you are a seasoned SEO professional or an entrepreneur running a business, you must be very well aware of it. And to you, the headlines like the above will not appear as a claim of a snake oil salesman.
The only issue is that the industry is full of conmen and they cheat clients in the name of SEO. First of all, they don’t have the required knowledge of SEO and secondly, they are not willing to invest the required time and effort into the process. Most of the entrepreneurs and bloggers actually need not be convinced about the value of
SEO for their sites. They know the incredible potential of SEO to help their website rank on top of SERPs, get the qualified leads and fulfill its business objectives. Most of them are very good at SEO themselves and they apply many SEO techniques to acquire organic rankings.
You can do the basic SEO yourself or by hiring an SEO executive. However, there are few areas where expert help is needed. We’ll discuss one such case today, where the website was doing well in terms of SEO, but wasn’t getting the desired results and traffic.
AppstoFollow.com is an illustrative portal for the best apps, smartphones, wearable, laptops, and consumer electronics worldwide. Started in July 2018, AppsToFollow is one of the budding technology news media sites for US, UK, Canada, Australia and other parts of the world. The aim is to reduce search attempts
for millennials interested in top apps to follow in their daily life.
We started working on this website in August 2018, when the traffic on it was mere 40 visitors per month. When the campaign ended in July 2019, the number of visitors on the site per month crossed 7000 according to Google Analytics.
Crucial Meeting with the Founder of AppToFollow
In the month of July 2018, we had a meeting with Sahila Sachdev, founder at Appstofollow.com.
During the meeting, she disclosed that despite creating quality content, the blog posts weren’t getting indexed on Google.
There were some severe issues with the website that their staffers weren’t able to fix.
We tried to understand their business model and the issues their website was facing.
Post the meeting, we performed a site wide audit and found the following issues:
§ Blog posts were not getting indexed on Google
§ Blog posts were not optimized properly
o Meta Data was missing
o H1/H2 Tags were missing
o URLs were not SEO friendly
We launched a pan India SEO campaign and took the following measures:
§ SEO optimization of all blog posts available on website
o URL Structure
o MetaData
o H1 Tags
o Keywords Tags
o Increased Keywords density within the content
o Internal linking of blog posts
§ SEO Optimization of all Categories available on website
o URL Structure
o MetaData
o H1 Tags
o Keywords Tags
o Added keyword rich content on category pages
We launched an SEO campaign for our client and started with the following action plan.
Initiation of SEO Campaign
The SEO campaign was initiated with the following action steps:
§ Crawling of complete website
o Crawled website to fetch all blog posts
§ Used paid tool “Screaming Frog” to crawl the website
§ Downloaded all blog posts for optimization
§ Analyzed all blog posts and recommended changes to
o URL Structure
o MetaData
o H1 Tags
o Blog Posts Content
The next difficult part was to fix the erratic blog posts from SEO perspective.
§ Pinpointed pages for improvement
§ Extracted all blog posts and sorted them on the basis of
o Traffic/Page Views
o Backlinks
§ Made a single page rank for multiple search terms
§ Owned Rank #0 in Semantic Search
§ Performed COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
Indexing of URLs
§ Kept Reviewing Website for Smooth Indexing
o Fixed Issues Hindering the Indexing of URLs
§ Monitored Indexing of URLs Closely
§ XML Sitemap Creation & Submission to Google Webmaster Tool
Competitors Analysis
Competitor analysis was done in terms of:
§ # of Pages
§ Content Quality
§ Blogs and frequency of update
§ # of keywords for which competitors were Ranking
§ Analysis of Backlinks and finding Quality resources to get links
Google Webmaster Review & Analysis
Then we did a Google Webmaster review:
§ Reviewed GWT data and tweaked/updated the pages
§ Reviewed Google Webmaster and Recommend Changes to Fix Issues
On-Site SEO on Category Pages
On-Site SEO was done on Category Pages -– i.e.
action steps were:
§ Keywords Research & Analysis
§ Keywords Finalization & Bucketing
Building Quality Back-links
We continually worked to garner quality back-links – By ensuring that the website is not caught in any kind of penalty by Google. We developed links with the mix of:
● Anchor texts
● Naked URLs
● Brand citations
● Reciprocal links
Once the issues were fixed, site wide SEO was performed and content was optimized across the website, a lot of fresh content was created based on the targeted keywords. Afterwards,
we interlinked the blog posts.
The Results
As we mentioned in the beginning, the traffic was a mere 40 visitors a month:
In the month of July 2019, when the campaign came to an end, the number of visitors as projected by Google Analytics was 7000 per month, which was almost a 2800% jump from the initial figure, when the SEO campaign was launched.
